MARIA ANDERSON
was the first African American to sing with the New York Metropolitan Opera. She performed a wide range of music, from opera to spirituals.
I was invited to a big party celebrating Maria and I asked her with all my admiration if I could take a picture of her. She put her finger up and said, “Just one.”
