FLOYD PATTERSON

was an American professional boxer who competed from 1952 to 1972 and twice reigned as the world heavyweight champion between 1956 and 1962.

Floyd Paterson turned pro at seventeen after capturing a gold medal at the 1952 Olympics. At eighteen, he became the youngest fighter to ever win the heavyweight title; an honor he retained until Mike Tyson broke his record. Floyd was also the first boxer to regain his title (1960) after losing it the previous year.

“My happiest moment as a boxer has yet to come. But I know it will be when, and if, my son wins a championship title himself.”

- Floyd Patterson
